Hunkered down in Austin is one of the finer design shops I’ve found: Ptarmak. Oh, y’know, the usual - they know exactly what they do best and they keep smartly within their britches, developing collateral for glad-to-be-here startups as well as some established brands such as Penguin, Kashi, and Victoria’s Secret. The better ones: the pictured buffet at the Old Faithful Shop in Vancouver, Honest Don’s Chop Shop in Kansas City, a hometown hitchin’, and, my personal favorite, Ursa Major men’s skin care from Vermont. I’m grateful to Ptarmak for highlighting this small company that seems to be confidently getting its feet under it in the best way…just got my free sample in the mail! [via]

An intoxicating aesthetic, if you’re into it (yup!). Toast is an impeccably curated English clothing and homewares line, where sturdiness and durability are tantamount to self-satisfaction and fussiness. It helps that the photos are sumptuous. Gentlemen, shall we? The anorak pictured. [via A Continuous Lean]

Charmaine Olivia creates idle ink drawings that, if applied to crockery, would make her a famous potter indeed. Silhouettes, elegant montages, oils (and inspiration), sunburst patterns, and notes to self, all in a spider-thin hand. A work in progress. She’s quite frank about depicting herself, but these works are not exhibitions. Her drawings of birds aren’t simply hiding some base lustfulness. Maybe this says something about me but while the artist seems to ooze her enjoyment of sex, she seems to have a preoccupation with shapes and arrangements chief upon her mind. Gorgeous noontime.

I remember discovering James Victore by way of his inked-up excerpt on Bar Rafaeli (cover of the July 2009 Esquire magazine). I considered a profile on him then but it seemed a bit tawdry I guess and I forgot about it. Recently I’ve bumped into some of his other work, and recognized it instantly. We’re on board now. You have to imagine that many of these are the work of only a moment, but I love his rickety scripts. Oh and. Buy his book. [via Cool Hunting]
